About the Kenyan Shilling
The Kenyan Shilling replaced the East African Shilling in 1966 and the latter was gradually phased out over three years. The first president of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, was the face of all banknotes until Daniel arap Moi claimed this honour from him during his term as president. Jomo Kenyatta was reinstalled as the face of the East African Shilling in 2003 and is currently depicted on the banknote denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 shillings.
