About the Singapore Dollar
Between 1845 and 1939, Singapore used the Straits Dollar which was subsequently swapped for the Malayan Dollar, and by 1953 the Malaya and British Borneo Dollar became the dominant currency. Singapore gained independence in 1965 and by 1967 the Singapore Dollar was introduced. It was initially pegged to the Pound but after the demise of sterling in this area, the Singapore Dollar became attached to the US dollar, but this is no longer the case. The most recent edition of banknotes was released in 1999 and contains the face of Yusof bin Ishak, the first president of the Republic of Singapore, on the front.
