Survey reveals priciest city breaks

London is one of the most expensive cities in the world for a short break, a survey shows.

It is only beaten by Cancun, Zurich and New York, according to TripAdvisor, which compared prices in 40 towns and cities for a couple taking a three-day break this summer.

The survey includes the price of a hotel room, tours and activities, taxi rides, lunch with soft drinks, and dinner with a bottle of wine.

The total cost of a three-night city break in London between June and August comes to £1,214. Hotel room rates account for a large proportion of the price, with one night costing nearly £202

A daily two-mile round trip in a taxi is £22.58 in London. Only the Swiss city of Zurich is more expensive, at £29.85.

Cancun in Mexico is the priciest place for a mini break at £1,304, followed by Zurich (£1,258) and New York (£1,235).

At the other end of the scale, Vietnam’s capital Hanoi was the world’s cheapest city surveyed. A three-day package comes to just £473, with a hotel room costing £56.41 a night.

Warsaw is the second least expensive city, at £478, followed by Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt (£531).
