The best beaches in the world and in Europe based on the reviews of travellers are in Brazil and Italy respectively, TripAdvisor says.

Baia do Sancho in the Fernando de Noronha islands in Brazil is the best beach on the planet, while Italy’s Rabbit beach at Lampedusa is the best in Europe and the third best in the world, according to reviews from holidaymakers.

As for the UK, Devon’s Woolacombe Beach is the fourth best in Europe, the reviews data has now suggested.

The beach at Weymouth in Dorset was eighth on the wider European list, meanwhile.

Also in the top 10 list of the best European beaches are Elafonissi Beach in Greece (third), Iztuzu Beach in the Turkish town of Dalyan (fifth), Fig Tree Bay in the resort of Protaras in Cyprus (sixth), Cala Rossa in Favignana, Italy (seventh), Eggremni Beach on the Greek island of Lefkada (ninth), and Playa de Bolonia in the Spanish town of Tarifa (tenth).
